It’s the first weekend in February, Boulder! How on earth did that happen??
As such, Stout Monthhas begun at all the branches of the Mountain Sun in earnest. So many guest stouts, so little time in this short month to sample them all before the culminating event of Stout Month, the Chop Contest. This year, the chop contest is happening separately in all branches of the pub, but that’s not for a few weeks now. What you need to know for this weekend is that there is freshly a giant menu of stouts to delve into, starting this weekend. New tappings happen Tuesdays, so get down to the Sun to get this week’s selections now!
The Boulder International Film Festival’s Spring season is in full swing this weekend, as well. This is the place to catch excellent, foreign, old, classic, cutting-edge, award-winning, or otherwise not-to-be-missed films from everywhere, right here in our own CU campus backyard.
Speaking of campus events, ukulele maestro Jake Shimabukuro is playing this Saturday with the Boulder Philharmonic up at Macky Auditorium. This master of the teeny strings has been featured on The Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel, and has played with such eclectic experts as Yo-Yo Ma and Lyle Lovett, amongst many others. Should be super fun to see.
Twisted Pine is having another Pints With a Purpose benefit all day Saturday. This time, one dollar of every pint will benefit New Horizons Cooperative Preschool. This is a benefit close to my own heart, as I attended that school and know firsthand how high quality a bilingual education it provides for Boulder’s very little ones. This is well worth your time (and why not? All it takes is enjoying delicious Twisted Pine beer…)
Oh, and also, I almost forgot….There’s some kind of big sporting event happening this Sunday, right? What was that again? Soccer? …j/k–actually the Boulder Theatre is screening the Super Bowl on its big screen Sunday at 4:30, with drink and snack specials worthy of the big event. Should be a fantastic party!
(Side note: happy birthday to Jesse and David. Many happy returns of the Friday.)
