I think I’ve established that I’m a pretty staunch pro-brunch supporter here, but, on days when everyone and quite literally their mother are going to brunch, I find it to be a less than fun experience because a) wait times and b) wait times. This girl does not like waiting for her brunch foods.
Because of that, I tend to enjoy spending other ways celebrating the moms in my life on Mother’s Day. Here are just a handful of suggestions of ways you can have a good time without waiting in that brunch line on Sunday.
Bring Your Mom to the Flowers
Why buy your mom a bouquet of flowers when there is a wealth of gorgeous wildflower-filled hikes in the Boulder area? In fact, we recently wrote an article on six great wildflower hikes. We’ve done all the legwork for you except the actual legwork on the trail. It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend, so why not get out there and go on a nice walk with your mom.
Paint Your Mom Some Flowers
Better yet, paint flowers with your mom. Posh is offering a Mother’s Day painting class complete with… wait for it… mimosas! Paint a floral portrait with the guidance of someone who knows what they’re doing and at the end compare your results with your mom. You could even trade portraits!
Buy Your Mom Some Flowers to Plant
This is the last one about flowers, I swear, but I really love spring flowers. Of course, what better way to surround yourself with beautiful spring foliage than to head to the Growing Gardens community plant sale? Get everything from flowers to fruit and veggie start kits, most of which are organic and bee safe.
Run with Your Mom
The Colorado Women’s 10K and 5K Classic in Westminster is a women-only race that takes place on Mother’s Day. For those of you with athletic mothers, this would be the perfect way to start the morning with mom. You provide the kiddie care and let her have a nice long run or walk surrounded with like-minded, strong women.
Build a 3D Model with Your Mom
If you’ve got a tech-savvy (or at least tech-interested) mom, there’s a 3D modeling open lab at the Louisville Public Library in the afternoon. Volunteers will help attendees create a 3D model then you can print it out on the mini printer! Be sure to bring your laptop to this event.
Take Your Mother to the Mother of All Tent Sales
That’s right, the McGuckin Hardware spring tent sale is this weekend and if your mom is at all the type that enjoy projects around the home, this sale will have her smiling from ear to ear. The entire store is 10% off, but there are sales on items that are up to 70% off. Plus free popcorn. You can’t beat free popcorn.
Enjoy a Day at the Carnival with Your Mom
A food truck carnival at that! Ride the rides and feast on food from a ton of local food trucks, all gathered in one place. Not only are their food truck, but there are several designer trucks as well, offering boutique clothing and unique gifts all inside a truck.
