There’s no better way to wrap up a sweet Boulder summer than with the tradition of biting into a fresh, seasonal Colorado Palisade Peach.

Palisade, a town in Mesa County in western Colorado, is famous for the world-renowned peaches the region produces. Exceedingly juicy and bursting with sweetness, these peaches benefit from the area’s unique climate, including the high elevation and frequent swings in temperature, and its rich soil. These factors, as well as the care and dedication of Palisade’s local farmers, combine to produce fruits that are clamored for each and every year.

August is National Peach Month, and Boulder County doesn’t hold back as it celebrates our state’s peaches in all their pizzazz. From fruity, seasonal craft beers to a whole festival dedicated to the peach, here are a few ways you can get in on the peachy goodness locally this month.

Lafayette Peach Festival

Just east of Boulder, the town of Lafayette will celebrate the 18th Annual Lafayette Peach Festival on August 19th. A longtime Lafayette tradition, this all-day festival features ample opportunities to sample Palisade peaches and plenty of peach fare alongside live entertainment, vendors, art, and activities for the kids. There will be over 30,000 pounds of certified organic peaches from Palisades-based Morton’s Orchards available for purchase at the festival as well as hundreds of pies, cobblers, and smoothies while supplies last. If you haven’t had your share of peaches yet this summer, this festival is a must to attend.

Craft Beer

Avery Brewing Company can always be trusted to use the freshest of seasonal ingredients in their inventive brews. During the summer, Avery releases their Perzik Saison, a refreshing peach saison that screams summertime in Colorado. Typically available from April through July, this 6.4% ABV beer can still be found at the Avery taproom in Niwot and in local liquor stores.

Powder Keg Brewing Company likewise harnesses the power of the peach during the summer. This June, Powder Keg released the second iteration of their Fruitful Union beer, combining the flavors of peach and raspberry into a true summertime treat. Very limited quantities of this brew are still available for purchase in bottles at the Powder Keg taproom in Niwot, so give them a call or stop by to see if you can still sample it this summer.

From the Farm

Summer is the prime time to find fresh peaches at farm stands and farmers markets around Boulder County. Specifically, Munson Farms at 75th Street and Valmont Road in Boulder continues to have fresh peaches available for purchase. Frequenters of Boulder County Farmers Markets likewise have the best chance of picking up some delectable peaches at this time of year.
