Running Free: Dog Parks in Boulder

Your Boulder Valmont Dog Park

Sometimes you just need to get your dog out of the house, out of the yard, and let him run — that why the City of Boulder created four dog parks for you and your pooch.

They’re located at strategic points throughout the city so you’ll never have to drive far to give your dog a place to run and play. If you live in an apartment or condominium without a yard, you’ll likely find that Boulder’s dog parks will become regular destinations for both you and your furry friend.

All of the dog parks in Boulder are double gated for your and your dog’s safety. This means you’ll enter through one gate, close it behind you, and then a second gate will take you into the dog park. This gives you a safe place to unleash your pet and allow them to safely enter the park without pulling.

The city also provides waste bags so you can clean up after your dog along with specific receptacles to dispose of pet waste. The dog parks in Boulder stay as nice as their as from a combination of work from both owners and the Parks and recreation department. Always clean up after your dog and dispose of trash and waste when you exit the park!

Now, let’s take you on a tour of the dog parks around Boulder so you can find one that’s close to you and comfortable for your dog.

East Boulder: This is located at 5660 Sioux Drive near the East Boulder Community Center. The park has separate areas for both small and large dogs. If your pup is a fan of water, there is a small lake at this park that’s ideal for quick swims, especially in the hotter summer months.

Foothills: This park is in North Boulder, west of Broadway and between Locust and Lee Hill Roads. It offers separate areas for both small and large dogs.

Howard Heuston: This park is also in the North Boulder area on 34th Street, south of Iris Ave. and east of 30th St. This is the only non-fenced dog park in Boulder. The majority of the park is leashed but there is an off-leash area that is well-marked. Click to learn more about Boulder’s off-leash program for dogs.

Valmont: This park is in Northeast Boulder off of Valmont Road, east of Foothills Parkway. It was renovated at the end of 2012 and is the largest dog park in the city. While there are no water features, there are separate areas for small and large dogs and the largest part of the fenced park is about three acres.
