Good Grief: Pain, Pleasure, and Possibilities

Thursday, August 20, 2026
6:30pm – 8:30pm
Canyon Theater, Main Library, Theater
In order to live as fully as possible, human beings struggle with the precarious situation of learning to hold grief in one hand and joy in the other. Join artists, Selasee Atiase, Ramon Gabrieloff-Parish, and Pedro Senhorinha Silva, for an evening of poetry, storytelling, music and comedy exploring the landscapes of grief, joy, and the human capacity to hold them both in creative tension.

As Black fathers, raising children in predominantly white spaces, each artist brings a deeply personal perspective shaped by love, loss, resilience, and hope. Together, they offer a rare intimacy with grief and joy—one that is seldom witnessed on a single stage and even less often shared with such honesty, vulnerability, and creative expression. This is more than a performance; it is an invitation into a conversation that honors what it means to be fully human. This event is unduplicable and not to be missed.
