We’re just over a week away from yet another Fourth of July. This year, you, your friends, and family can celebrate (and safely) in Boulder at Folsom Field at the University of Colorado.
With past years offering up nothing but dry seasons, I’m happy that the current year’s rainfall is cooperating to allow for a long-standing tradition like fireworks. While it’s not everyone’s bag, it’s always fun to end a big day filled with barbecues with a lit-up sky.
So, what can you do in Boulder for the Fourth of July until the festivities start at Folsom Field? Oh, there’s plenty. Let’s take a look at the rundown:
- You can run the Avery Brewing 4 on the Fourth K (starts at 9AM). More details on the Avery Brewing site, but I’ll spill the beans and say your entry fee gets you a catered beer breakfast. Yup.
- If you need something a bit more family-friendly than a beer run first thing in the morning, check out the Kids’ Bike Parade sponsored by MyParentingPlace.org. You can find details here and events begin at 10AM.
- You can do what my friends and I dub the “climb for pancakes.” Start at the base of Left Hand Canyon (at the Greenbriar) and ride your bike up to Jamestown. Beginning at 8AM, the volunteer fire department puts on a pancake breakfast. They have an incredible Facebook page with all of the day’s details — and the food? Delicious.
Wherever you find yourself on the Fourth, make it safe, fun, and friendly. Me? I’ll be bombing down a mountain bike trail in full body armor at Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park and I’ll raise a pint to salute you and your festivities sometime around mid-day. Cheers!
