Your Guide to Organic Grocers in Boulder

By Erika Napoletano

organic grocery stores boulder

There’s no surprise that Boulder has more than its fair share of organic grocery stores. If you’re new to town — student or new resident of any ilk — and organic food fits your lifestyle, we have the ideal list of organic grocery stores to complete your shopping lists.

Natural Grocers (Pearl Street between 28th and 30th Streets): Natural Grocers is a Colorado company, dedicated to bringing a no-frills shopping experience to the health-conscious across the Front Range. Bring your own bags or grab an empty box at the checkout — they’re super eco-conscious and reduce their impact by not adding more bags to the environment. Here, you’ll find one of the widest arrays of natural supplements, local and Colorado-proud grocery items, as well as grade A organic produce, meats, and other foodstuffs.

Whole Foods (Pearl Street between 28th and 30th Streets): They share a parking lot with Natural Grocers. Beware — parking can be a beast. Whole Foods is the nation’s leading purveyor of natural and organic groceries. The Boulder Whole Foods is kind of the Disneyland of Whole Foods locations. They offer an extensive prepared foods section along with hot and cold food bars that would make any buffet green with envy. They also own Ideal Market in Mapleton.

Lucky’s Market (North Broadway between Linden and Violet): Welcome to Boulder’s independent supermarket! Here, you’ll find sweet deals to rival any major grocery chain on organic produce. Many Boulderites opt to shop here to support a locally-owned grocery store. The selection is plentiful and the service is fantastic.

King Soopers: There are three locations for this major grocery chain in Boulder — 30th Street, Table Mesa, and Baseline Rd. The Boulder locations, especially Table Mesa and 30th Street, have robust organic produce sections and a complete natural and organics food section that takes up two full aisles.

Safeway: There are also three locations for this major grocery chain in Boulder — 28th Street, Arapahoe Ave., and Baseline Rd. The 28th Street location has a generous selection of organic produce as well as an entire dedicated section to organic and natural foods (including an extensive freezer and dairy section).

No mention of Sprouts?! It’s my favorite [cheaper] alternative to Whole Foods. It seems pretty comparable to Trader Joe’s.

How about http://www.MileHighOrganics.com? We offer home delivery in all of Boulder and the surrounding areas. Now only can you skip going to a grocery store, we’re actually the only grocer in Colorado to screen out genetically engineered ingredients.

[…] Living in Boulder, Colorado means joining one of the most eco-sensitive communities in the U.S. With the Easter holidays coming up, wouldn’t it be great if you could host an Easter egg decorating party and skip all of the weird ingredients? The egg decorating process puts little hands in contact with the dyes, no doubt, so we went out and found the best of the best for all-natural Easter egg dyes. Not only are these dyes all-natural, they’re made from things that are meant for eating. It really doesn’t get better than that! And you can grab everything you need at one of Boulder’s organic grocery stores. […]
