Steven Wright Boulder CO

The event isn’t until September, but we’re telling you about it now because tickets, my friends, are on sale. Steven Wright, the iconic purveyor of nonsequitorial one-liners, is coming to Boulder.

He’s dry. He’s always a delight. He’s Academy Award-winning. Which is definitely better than Charlie Sheen winning. He’s been nominated for multiple Grammys for his albums, “I Have a Pony” and the follow up, “I Still Have a Pony.” You can catch him on September 13 at Chautauqua Auditorium and there are still tickets left in the up-front sections.

Wright had his first performance on The Tonight Show in 1982. Revered for his dry wit and brevity, he’s been making audiences laugh and see things inside out (along with upside down and sideways) for decades.  I remember when I heard my first Steven Wright-ism — “Atheism is a nonprophet organization.” I howled. His wordplay extends beyond smart. It’s occasionally dark. He’s often the butt of his own jokes about life, love, and relationships. Yet whatever he does, he’s endearing and you simply can’t help it but to root for the guy. Last year, he was awarded the Johnny Carson Comedy Legend Award, where he joined the ranks of other comedic greats like Dick Cavett, Cloris Leachman, and Bill Cosby.

He’s awesome. You know it. Now, off with you. Go score your tickets to see a comedy legend in action in our own backyard. The show will undoubtedly sell out, so get while the getting is good. And in the meantime, here’s a fantastic use of 49 seconds in a way only Steven Wright can make use of 49 second. Enjoy. (And get your tickets here.)
