Uniquely Boulder: Aerial Dance Festival

boulder aerial dance festival
Seventeen years ago, artistic director Nancy Smith wasn’t convinced the inaugural Aerial Dance Festival would take off (pun intended). It was the first event of its kind in the world, and as such had no precedent. As one of the first and (at that time) only aerial dance companies in the world, Frequent Flyers Productions was in a league of their own.

Now, in this day of Cirque du Soleil and the trend of pole dancing in full trending swing (again, pun intended), Frequent Flyers Productions’  2015 International Aerial Dance Festival is still going strong as a venue for the cross-pollination of aerial and circus arts from across the globe. But you don’t have to be an expert or a practitioner to enjoy the fruits of the aerial festival. There are several beginning courses tailored to the inexperienced, so if you’re curious about flying, want to learn a new apparatus, or are interested in burlesque, object manipulation, or any number of aerial dance apparatus or philosophy, the aerial dance festival is just the place to begin or continue training, or to get a taste of what this diverse collection of arts has to offer.

The 2015 Aerial Dance Festival started on Aug. 1st, and goes through the closing gathering and dance party on Aug. 14. Come for the workshops, stay for the showcase performances and talkbacks by the dancers. For more information and to register for workshops, visit Frequent Flyers or call 303-245-8272.
