Boulder goes Derby? Yep. This is happening.
I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time turning down a theme party. That goes double when I get to say “mint julep” in my best Southern drawl (it’s not that good, but I try). It goes triple when all of the proceeds from said theme party go to benefit a worthy cause. Which is why I’m going to try my hardest to make it over to The Bitter Bar on Saturday, May 3rd between 2 and 5 pm to participate in their Third Annual Mustaches ‘n Mint Juleps Kentucky Derby Party.
You have an excuse to wear that derby hat that you purchased on eBay after one too many drinks. You can imbibe some finely crafted cocktails that you just don’t get to drink at any other time in the year. Plus, if that’s not reason enough, the $10 donation at the door gets you a complimentary mint julep and free snacks created by hot stuff top chef Hosea Rosenberg and his latest endeavor, Blackbelly Catering.
Your mouth is already watering, right? I bet it is. Well, what if I told you that all this fun stuff was to help raise money for the Boulder County AIDS Project? Wouldn’t you want to go even more?
This event helps to raise money for Boulder’s BCAP, a nonprofit in the community that helps to give support and education to those in the community living with HIV. They are a resource for advocacy, assistance and outreach in Boulder County and the opportunity to help support such a noble cause makes Mustaches ‘n Mint Juleps all the better.
Here’s a list of all the fun stuff you can expect to find at The Bitter Bar on Saturday afternoon:
- Free mint julep at the door.
- Crab cakes and light snacks from Blackbelly Catering.
- A mustache to call your own.
- Best derby hat contest (the winner gets a $50 gift card to Oak on Fourteenth).
- Their “Blow up the condom” game.
- Door prizes that include an in-home massage, an Avery brewing package, a deluxe shaving kit, movie tickets and more!
This is shaping up to be a roaring good time downtown at the newly reopened Bitter Bar, so be sure to dust off your finest hat, apply a new coat of mustache wax (if applicable) and come party for a good cause.
