Boulder Heights is a modern-day mountain subdivision. With lots that encompass several acres, houses in this neighborhood are large and spacious but feel like they are tucked away in the mountains. The reality is that if you live here, you’re actually only five miles from downtown Boulder. Not bad for the chance to commune closely with nature on a daily basis and sleep at elevations up to 8,000 feet, huh?
History: Started in the mid-50s, this real estate development was popular from inception and continued to grow in popularity over the next three decades. Lee Hill Road was, at one time, the wagon route that miners would take into Ward but it now acts as the main northwest entrance to Boulder Heights. (The road was dirt until the late 1980s, when the decision was made to modernize and pave.)
Housing: This neighborhood consists of about 375 homes, many with spectacular views of the sweeping plains, foothills and all of Boulder laid out down below. Houses in Boulder Heights run on the bigger side (most are 2000+ square feet) and you can find residences with several acres included. Living in this Boulder neighborhood has its cost and prices here range from the mid-$300s up to $900,000.
Restaurants and Shopping: As one would expect from a sprawled-out mountain neighborhood, there are not any places to eat or shop in Boulder Heights. But the beauty of living here is that you can have the seclusion of being away from it all while still enjoying everything Boulder has to offer within a 10-minute drive. Just down the hill from Lee Hill Road is North Boulder’s growing retail area and a few miles further is the Ideal Shopping Center.
Family and Fitness: The obvious allure of living in this neighborhood is the proximity to the mountains and foothills surrounding Boulder. And by proximity, I mean, you are living in it. Hiking abounds here. There are trails all over with some labelled and public like the Anne U. White nature trail. People of all ages can take their time meandering on this path that follows the Four Mile Canyon Creek. Additionally, Lee Hill Road is a popular place for cyclists so if you live in Boulder Heights, be prepared to share the road with bikes during the busy weekends.
Schools: Foothill Elementary, Centennial Middle and Boulder High.
Quirks: This is more of a danger than a quirk but many homes in this neighborhood have been forced to evacuate over the past few years. It doesn’t seem that any residences received major damage from the recent fires but anyone moving to this neck of the woods should know that they are going to be living in a high-risk area.
Major street boundaries: It’s hard to define this neighborhood by major streets, since all of the homes are located on mountain roads, some that end at the house and others that are not even paved. The easiest way to define the location of Boulder Heights is to reference Lee Hill Road, with many of the streets in this neighborhood branching off that main one.
Boulder Heights is not a neighborhood designed for everyone. But if you’re yearning for mountain living without all that hassle of mountain living, then Boulder Heights is actually designed for you. Not to mention that if you live here, you’ll be living amongst lots of athletes that call this neighborhood home. What’s more Boulder than that?
