For Boulder’s multitalented multisport athletes, the Boulder Stroke & Stride Race Series occurring over dates in June and July provides opportunities to flex multiple sets of muscles over the course of one race. Akin to the Boulder Dash N’ Dine 5k Series in the spring, the Boulder Stroke & Stride Race Series is a set of weekly aquathlon events put on by Without Limits Productions, with each event featuring an open water swim in the Boulder Reservoir followed by an out-and-back 5k run. There are many different registration options available to provide opportunities for a wide array of participant experience levels, and racers can choose to swim the 750-meter course plus their 5k run, a more challenging 1,500-meter swim plus their 5k run, to pick a buddy and complete the race as a relay, or to only participate in the 5k run.

Boulder is a triathlon destination, and the Boulder Stroke & Stride Race Series is a great way to get practice and a warm-up in for triathlon athletes in both the running and swimming elements of a triathlon event. Summertime in Boulder is the culmination of Boulder’s local triathlon culture with the Boulder Triathlon Series, which consists of the Boulder Sprint Triathlon on June 13th, the Ironman 70.3 likewise on June 13th, the Boulder Peak Triathlon on July 12th, and the Ironman Boulder on August 2nd.

The Boulder Stroke & Stride Race Series is a great practice environment for triathlon athletes but also gives beginner athletes the opportunity to get comfortable in an open water swim environment if it’s their first open water race experience. For those looking for open water swim coaching to up confidence levels, pre-registration is available for clinics (dates have yet to be announced) at the Boulder Reservoir on open water swimming techniques and strategies. While wetsuits are not required for the swimming portion of the Boulder Stroke & Stride races, as the water temperature is typically in the 60s and 70s in June and July for these events, it’s suggested that you do bring one (if you own one) to these clinics and to these events in order to give you the full open water swim experience.

Whether you view the Boulder Stroke & Stride Race Series as a training session, an ongoing athletic challenge, or your personal culminating race event of the summer, this series combines the commitment to consistent training with a family atmosphere and friendly competitive environment. Dogs are not permitted at the Boulder Reservoir on these race dates and, as with the majority of Boulder’s competitive events, there will likewise be food at the end of each event.

The Boulder Stroke & Stride Race Series will be occurring on June 4th, June 10th, June 18th, June 25th, July 1st, July 9th, July 16th, July 23rd, and July 29th. The races all begin at 6:00 P.M. with same day registration beginning at 4:30 P.M. For those looking to challenge themselves and track their progress throughout the summer, there is likewise a six-pack registration option that allows athletes to choose six of the event dates to participate in throughout the summer. Points for event participation and finishing times will be tracked for multi-event athletes throughout the race series with awards going to top finishers in each age group at the end of the race series.
