The company was founded in 1951 by Ann Benedict to supply the Girl Scouts with lightweight, nutritious food for the trail. The Smith family purchased the company in 1971, and still owns and operates the company to this day out of Boulder, CO.

Colorado Spice blends are authentic to the cuisine from which they are developed. They are unadulterated and pure as defined by the Pure Food and Drug Act. Our products have no dyes, no artificial colors, and no MSG.
We substitute brown sugar, honey powder, and fructose in place of refined sucrose; we do not use silica as an anti-caking agent, and we use lower salt formulations in our blends. Most of our products are Kosher certified. While most companies use salt, sugar, and MSG as the basis of their blended formulations, at Colorado Spice we use herbs and spices!
All of our products are produced in our Boulder, CO facility. The owner, Rodney Smith, spends countless hours sourcing the best possible herbs and spices throughout the U.S. and the world.

For the past 14 years, First Bite: Boulder County Restaurant Week has been at the forefront of bringing the Boulder County community together around our incredible dining scene. For nine days in November, more than 50 of the area’s top restaurants will offer a special three course prix-fixe dinner menu to the community. To provide a more dynamic experience, restaurants will serve either a $29/person or $49/person menu. Make plans with your friends, neighbors and family to come together over an unforgettable dinner.
First Bite (Boulder County Restaurant Week) is November 8-16, 2019. This is a non-ticketed event. The 2019 restaurants will be announced starting July 31. Please make reservations directly with participating restaurants.
