Ever the flower on the frontline of spring foliage, tulips are sprouting all over Boulder County. Downtown Boulder likes to celebrate them and the arrival of spring in fun Boulder fashion with the Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival, a family friendly Boulder event happening this Sunday, April 27 from 1 to 5 pm.
Sunday afternoon, the Pearl Street Mall will be flooded with the Tulip Fairy and her mini helpers as they run around visiting the tulips on the mall and creating some fun, free activities for the kiddos all afternoon.
If you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary to do with your kids this weekend, then Pearl Street is the place to be. There are going to be all sorts of activities for the little ones including face painting, live performances and a parade leaving the courthouse at 3:30.
Here’s a list of some of the free activities your kids can enjoy at the festival:
- Foam sword dueling
- Collaborative art projects
- Nature activities and wildlife safety
- Seed planting
- Compost worm exploration
- Cookie decorating
- Create your own fairy wands
There are 18 different stations to choose from, each hosted by a local business or nonprofit and they span from 13th to 15th Street, with the main performance stage right in front of the Courthouse. You can take a look at the festival map here.
There are a great variety of musical acts during the Tulip Fairy Festival, including Nokuthula, which plays contemporary and traditional Afro-pop fusion (to get your kids moving and dancing in the street). Jeff Kagan and Paige Doughty will take the stage with their “Waking the Bear” routine, an interactive performance. Finally, the Boulder School of Rock will no doubt put on a face melting rock performance for the kids by kids.
Remember, that parking in Downtown Boulder is free every Saturday and Sunday, so you won’t even have to shell out to find a space.
Bring the whole family down to the Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival this Sunday, April 27th, from 1 pm to 5 pm on the Pearl Street Mall and enjoy a magical afternoon on the bricks. ‘Tis the season to be ripe with Boulder events for the entire family. We hope to see you and yours there this weekend!
