Join Indigenous relatives from surrounding states, the Front Range, and your neighborhood to honor the Indigenous ancestors of Boulder Valley at the 2nd Annual Boulder Valley Indigenous People’s Day Pow Wow on October 12th -14th and the Inaugural Boulder Valley Indigenous People’s Day Parade on October 14th. In addition, there will be programming and culture events dedicated to uplifting and centering the Indigenous community, particularly the Arapaho Nation, who’s lands we occupy here in the Front Range.

We are planning music, dance, and other culture events dedicated to uplifting our Indigenous community members.
This year we commemorate and dedicate our events to the thousands of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit relatives by creating visibility around this awful epidemic affecting our families. The organizing committee is intentionally creating community-supported activities that raise awareness and activism around this critical issue.

In 2016 Boulder, Aspen, Denver and Durango, Colorado all adopted Indigenous People’s Day after decades of organizing by local Indigenous people to honor the Indigenous ancestors of their cities. In 2017, local Boulder resident Chief Lee Plenty Wolf (Oglala Lakota) and Boulder philanthropist Tom Downs, were approached by the City of Boulder Human Relations Commission about responding to the City’s offer of funding for Indigenous People’s Day events. With the help of the White Horse Creek Council, Chief Plenty Wolf led the Indigenous People’s Day Mini Pow Wow, Teach-In and Friendship Dance on October 9th, 2017.

The 2019 event carries this forward and we look forward to seeing you in Boulder again!
