Fall changes in mountain communities - MRS guided walk

Saturday, October 17, 2026
10:00am – 12:00pm
Mountain Research Station, 818 County Road 116, Nederland, CO 80466
Join MRS Director Scott Taylor and MRS Graduate Research Assistant Will Anderson for a guided walk at INSTAAR's Mountain Research Station (MRS). We'll be keeping an eye out for the less-frequently observed fall changes in the mountains. Many people associate fall in the mountains with changing aspens and the associated leaf peepers, but there are many other fascinating changes occurring throughout the natural world. Mammals like snowshoe hare and ermine are changing their coat color from the summery brown to a wintery white. Some resident bird species, like mountain and black-capped chickadees or Clark's nutcracker are busy caching 80,00-100,000 seeds to survive the coming summer. The walk starts at 10:00 am and will last for about 2 hours. We only have space for 20 people. Sign up is required to reserve your spot. Additional details will be emailed to attendees one week prior to the walk. --------------------------- General Info The Mountain Research Station is located approximately 2...
