STUDIO 24: Weaving Patterns to Repair Knit Fabric Like Sweaters and Socks with Katrina Rodabaugh

Tuesday, September 1, 2026
2:30pm – 4:30pm
STUDIO 24 Classroom, NoBo Library, Makerspace STUDIO 24
Learn to consider color, line, and pattern when darning knit textiles like sweaters, socks, hats, and scarves. After you’ve tired the basics of darning, or plain weave, you can start considering simple weaving patterns too. By using two or three colors, you can create tiny weaves that add beautiful embellishment and expression to your knits. This mending technique can be applied to a wide range of clothing items and home textiles constructed of knit fabrics. It’s particularly useful for folks who have some basic darning experience but want to go deeper with design elements and color. We’ll cover useful stitches and weaving to make thoughtful repairs with yarn and thread. This is a more advanced darning technique that is still useful for new menders, and great for weavers. Please bring one clean textile to darn that’s made from knit fabric like most sweaters, socks, hats, scarves, blankets, etc.—no woven fabrics like jeans, please, we’ll cover those techniques in patching classes.
