That’s right, it’s another soapbox article from your truly. The last couple of weeks have been truly frightening for me as we’ve watched executive order after executive order slowly making good on campaign promises to create an immigration ban, build a wall, cut funding for sanctuary cities, approve a controversial oil pipeline construction — not to mention a now-stalled push to repeal (and “replace”) the Affordable Care Act.
As I’ve watched in horror at what’s been going on in our nation’s capitol, I have also noticed a great number of my friends mobilizing and making their opinions heard, whether through protest, writing, or contacting their legislators.
It might seem like something trivial to make a call or write a letter, but ultimately, the Senators and House Representatives elected to this state are your voices in Congress. If you don’t make your voice heard, they will likely stick with party lines and here’s the deal:
We have one Democrat and one Republican Senator. We have three Democrat and four Republican representatives. If we want a “liberal agenda” to be heard in D.C. from the State of Colorado, it needs to come from our mouths, our pens, and our keyboards.
I’m going to make it easy for you here. I’m going to give you all of the ways you can contact your representatives right here, right now.

U.S. Representatives
If you live in Boulder, you’re living in District 2 and you have Jared Polis as your representative. Along with Diana DeGette Ed Perlmutter, they are the three liberals in our districts, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t contact him! Let him know what’s so important to you. Polis also sits on the following committees:
- House Committee on Education and the Workforce
- House Committee on Ethics
- House Committee on Rules
Rules and ethics. It seem like those would be some pretty important committees in the coming years, so having his back will strengthen his resolve.
