It was a beautiful day for the inaugural IRONMAN Boulder. The event lit up town this past week with competitors and visitors. Even the finish line was jam packed into the dark hours last night as the event’s final finishers came across the line. And Boulder’s own made a fine showing.
We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Boulder resident Justin Daerr for claiming the men’s title as well as Boulder resident Laura Bennett for taking second place in the women’s division. The Daily Camera has a wonderful writeup today on Daerr (though we would like to have seen Bennett get more than just a fleeting mention — what’s up with that? Even this writeup was a bit lamesauce. Bennett — you’re amazing!). Daerr’s winning time was 8 hours, 20 minutes, 26 seconds.
While Boulder’s a hyper-active (not hyperactive) town filled with some of the fittest people in the world, we can’t comprehend the tenacity and talent of yesterday’s comeptitors. We applaud all of those who came, saw the swim, bike, and run, and conquered — no matter what time you posted. You completed a 140.6-mile course (zoinks) and this alone deserves a standing ovation (and quite possibly the most carb-laden meal you’ve ever ingested). Without the support of family, friends, coaches, and community, we know this event wouldn’t have been possble for IRONMAN Boulder’s nearly 3,000 athletes.
There are also some sweet images from around the web from yesterday’s race. To preserve the integrity of the photographers and the copyright on their work, we’re providing you with links so you can click through to the images directly on their sites. Enjoy the view, and if there are any sweet photo galleries we missed, share a link in the comments.
PS: the photos below are copyrighted, so if you share them, please don’t copy and paste the photo. Use a link to share. It’s a wild, wild internet out there and creators deserve all the recognition they’ve earned by being the masters of the lens.
