It’s official, the Summer of 2014 is over. Now, as a Florida native, I have to say that I’m not sad to see it go. I have enough “summer” in my system to last the rest of my lifetime. What I am sad to see go is the multitude of opportunities to see live music (particularly of the low to no cost sort) at the various outdoor festivals hosted around our fine town all summer long.
It’s true we still have plenty of indoor places to get our music fix on – just one look at the weekend roundup here on yourboulder.com will assure you of that. However, about a year ago I stumbled across a quaint little venue with a unique atmosphere that always feels special to me and I’m happy to share it with you here.
Meet Nissi’s, officially known as, “a gathering place for live music, special events, great food and drinks.” Now for a little disclaimer, Nissi’s is technically located in Lafayette; however, don’t let that little technicality stop you from checking it out. It’s located right on Arapahoe just 15 minutes from downtown Boulder and as an added plus, the parking is free and easy.
Nissi’s has been owned by Marc Gitlin since 2009. Long time Boulderites might recall that name as he was the owner of the former Fanatics Sports Cafe in Boulder. After selling Fanatics, he was the managing director of Trios Grille and Wine Bars in Boulder and Denver. After a few years of exploring other business opportunities, Marc ultimately returned to his passion, taking over ownership of Nissi’s. Marc’s goal is to provide a great night of fun, food, drinks, and dancing for adults in an upscale, safe, fun, and comfortable environment. Based on every experience I’ve had here, I’d say he’s doing a great job.
Nissi’s features guests from several different genres but I will say that it’s more classic than modern, and no that doesn’t mean it’s just for “old” folks but it’s definitely not designed to draw a college crowd.
Next time you’re up for a night of dinner and music, check out Nissi’s where you get a truly delicious combo of both, right in the same place. You can see their upcoming shows here. If you happen to be a Jazz lover, I recommend checking it out on a night when Jazz Genius, Nelson Rangell is playing – he’s truly amazing.
Get out there and enjoy!
