Love, Boulder Style

boulder coffeeWhether those three words just made your heart flutter or made you dry heave, you can’t deny that it’s Valentine’s Day.  The semi permanent visual aura of red and pink hearts covers just about every business’s surface and lovebirds dine out at dimly lit tables while staring deeply into each other’s eyes.

I, personally, have never been one of for the holiday, but as I understand it, there are people less jaded than I and they enjoy the chance to express their love for the people around them.

Of course, this being Boulder, we’ve got to do things a little bit differently, don’t we? Here are a few simple ways to let your sweetie know you care in true Boulder style.

Lovey Latte Art: Deliver the gift that makes your partner’s heart go pitter patter at 1000 RPMs. Get them energized to make it through the day so they have some leftover energy for you tonight (hubba hubba).

Heart-Shaped Seitan Steak: Nothing says “You have my heart, but not the real thing because that would be inhumane” like non-meat. Find some delicious spices and vegan sauces and share that cruelty-free meal with your favorite activist.

Mountain Top Make-Out Sesh: Make your daily couples trail run a little more exciting with a race to the summit followed by some heavy-duty lip locking. PDA be damned, you just had a grueling run; you’ve earned the right to engage in some sweaty embracing.

Couples Coworking: You’ve got a favorite coworking space in Boulder and, sadly, Valentine’s Day isn’t a national holiday, so you’ve got to put in the hours. What better than to spend it side by side at a community table built for two? You can even engage in some flirty and ironic across-the-table IM-ing.

Off-Leash Romping: Dress your dogs, Aspen, Cody and Chinook, in their finest red bandana, making sure their sight and voice tags are still visible and head for the hills to let the dogs run off their pent up energy. Enjoy a laid back hike while your pups “spread the love” to every new dog they meet.

Of course, if you like a slightly more traditional evening, plenty of fantastic restaurants in Boulder are offering delicious prix fixe meals for two in anticipation for a saccharine love overdose.

Or you could stay in and watch “The War of the Roses” like me. Popcorn anyone?
