Try this little experiment: Go to your local Boulder (or any Front Range) liquor store and count the number of pumpkin beers available. Chances are, you’ll run out of fingers and toes to count them on before you get through them all. Now count the number of craft pumpkin spirits available at your liquor store. My guess is that if you found any at all, you can count them on one hand.
If you’re really lucky, then one of those spirits was Boulder’s Own Pumpkin King Cordial by Roundhouse Spirits.
Every year, the market is inundated with pumpkin beer and fall seasonal beers, but very few distilleries follow suit, so Roundhouse producing a very limited batch of this craft spirit is something new to the spirits world.
In true Boulder fashion, the distillery is keeping it local. They’ve partnered with Munson Farms (only five miles from the distillery!) and used over 5,000 pounds of their pie pumpkins, blended it with their gin and traditional fall spices (cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger) to produce a cordial that’s the embodiment of fall.
Finally, the liquor lovers of Boulder have a way to spice up their autumn drinks, because this liqueur adds a just about every warm beverage you can imagine. It’s particularly good mixed with Chai tea or hot apple cider, but you can also add it to your eggnog or some ginger beer. If you’re feeling particularly indulgent, drizzle it over your ice cream! However, for you purists out there, Pumpkin King Cordial makes a smooth sipping drink all by itself as well.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Boulder’s Roundhouse Spirits yet, it should definitely be a place you visit in the near future.
Tucked into a commercial business park, you might almost miss it if it weren’t for the letters above the doors that clearly point visitors to the DISTILLERY. Currently, the interior is undergoing a great redesign to make it feel more like a speakeasy or tasting room and less like a warehouse. But the warehouse feels should certainly not stop you from taking a tour of the place and trying the various spirits they have to offer. Stop by between 3-7 pm Thursday through Saturday and taste their award winning gin, as well as some of their specialty liquors like Corretto Coffee Liqueur and, of course, Pumpkin King Cordial.
