Leveraging equitable assessment practices to Support Student Learning while Reducing Overuse of AI
Tuesday, November 17, 2026
10:00am – 11:30am
CU Boulder
The rapid popularization of generative AI has raised concerns about how to develop meaningful assessments of student learning. In this session, we will introduce equity-minded assessment practices to recenter the focus of assessment on promoting student motivation and learning, while also reducing the likelihood of students overrelying on or cheating with AI. Participants in this session will learn strategies for fostering transparency around assessment (including AI and assessment, specifically), designing assessments (e.g., quizzes, papers, projects) that emphasize relevance and authenticity, and incorporating metacognitive reflection to support more purposeful student AI use (or non-use). There will also be opportunities to discuss questions and ideas in a supportive environment.
