Chez Thuy: Standout Vietnamese and Thai Food in Boulder

Chez Thuy BoulderTucked away on the west side of 28th Street just north of the 29th Street Mall, you’ll find an unassuming looking building with a sign out front — Chez Thuy (pronounced shay-twee). While the parking lot might be small, the inside is generous and home to Boulder’s busiest destination for Vietnamese and Thai cuisine.

One thing you’ll notice immediately when you walk into Chez Thuy is the number of Asian patrons. The reason? The food at Chez Thuy stays true to its Vietnamese and Thai roots, making those who are far away from home or the cooking they grew up with quite comfortable at one of Chez Thuy’s tables.

On that note, we have to say that a good motto for dining at Chez Thuy is come a bit early or be prepared to wait. This is one of Boulder’s busiest lunchtime dining destinations and on Friday and Saturday nights, you might find yourself waiting for a table during peak hours between 7-8PM. If you’re coming in for lunch, we recommend arriving between 11:30-11:45AM and for walk-in-dinners, try around 6:15-6:45PM to minimize your wait time.

The prices are also one of the contributing factors to wait times and full tables — they’re amazingly affordable. Lunch plates can be had, on the average, in the $7 to $9 range and dinner (with abundant, crying-for-a-to-go-container portions) between $11 and $20.

Their Pad Thai is unimpeachable. Their soups are delectable. And if you’re a salad lover, don’t miss the Vietnamese Cole Slaw. It’s a delightful blend of shredded cabbage and various veggies, guaranteed to fill you up guilt-free (you can even add tofu, chicken, beef, or shrimp to top it off).

Carnivores will find themselves in heaven with a wide variety of dishes that include beef, chicken, pork, and shrimp options. Those on the vegetarian and vegan side will also enjoy a healthy list of options to appease their lifestyles as well. If you’re gluten-free, don’t be afraid to say so. The waitstaff is used to accommodating dietary requests and will let you know what the best menu options are to meet your dietary restrictions. You can review their gluten-free menu here.

Arrive hungry and if you want to avoid the wait, arrive early! Chez Thuy will be delighted to satisfy your cravings for delectable Asian fare.
