I won’t mince words. I am extraordinarily vain when it comes to my hair. I have nearly 15 years of shear hair perfection and I do not lightly hand my locks over to a novice when it comes to my 5-week haircut (those of you with short hair know, it grows like a weed!). Several of my lady friends that have been endowed with curly locks have said the same thing.
Your hair stylist either knows how to cut curly/short hair, or they don’t. For those of us with either of the aforementioned hair conditions or cuts, it’s critical that you find someone who knows their stuff around a pair of scissors (and razors).
For Curly Tresses
Oh how I have pined for curly hair all my life, but, alas, I have the straightest, finest hair ever. But, I have it on good authority that these are great places to try.
Voodoo Hair Lounge
I will not confirm or deny that black magic is used at this salon, but it seems that most hair stylists at this salon are bewitchingly good with curly hair. Recommended stylists include: Marion, Hannah, Lo, and Allyson.
West End Salon
Again. As a gal with hair as straight as a piece of uncooked spaghetti, this is al new to me, but there is a full school of training for ladies with curly hair and West End Salon follows that training. Deva Curl cuts ensure that every cut you get is one that works with your hair’s curliness level. There are a number of people certified for this including: Tracie, Alex, Amy, Janina, Joshua, Nine, Lucy, Stephanie, and Hannah.
For Short Hair
I took the plunge and cut my hair short over a decade ago and I have not yet had the patience or the desire to grow my hair out past my ears. I try, but, well, I seem best suited for a short head of hair. Here are some great short shearer’s in Boulder.
Pompadours
With a name like this, they best deliver on their short hair game and that they do. Not only does this place boast a Best of 2016 award for Colorado Daily and a Best of Boulder County award, the also have several hair stylists who really rock short hard for the ladies. The people to see here are: Eddie, Minhwa, Becky, and Amanda.
Sage Studios
Unlike all of the other listings here, Sage Studios is actually just one woman: Emmy. Her salon is located in the Sola Salon, but she runs her own business and she has several rave reviews for short haircuts.

Evergreen Cottage and Spa Hair Salon
Like I said earlier, I have short hair so I’m crazy picky about who I let touch it and Rebecca is who I trust with my short hair in the Boulder metro area. She listens to what I want, she pays attention to my scalp and cowlicks (super important for those of us with short hair) and she makes my faux hawk rock. So, yes, this is a total biased
