Have you always felt that, even in Boulder, you were just too far separated from your food? Are you tired of your mornings consisting of conference calls without a set agenda? Do you feel like you just need more space than what you currently have available in Boulder?
Well then, my friend, you are in luck, because a ranch is going up for auction on Friday, June 5th. It’s a different kind of Boulder “luxury” home – and quite close to nature.
Maytag Mountain Ranch is selling their land in fifteen 100-acre parcels to the highest bidders in their auction on the 3,000-acre ranch. Yes, that Maytag. Well, actually, the son of that Maytag.
To be clear, you’re buying into an existing ranch. You don’t actually have to learn about pricing cattle or the geographic area needed to support free-range chicken (which boosts the luxury factor). The owners of the ranch are letting people choose their involvement level in the endeavor. You can slap on a cow…person hat (the opportunity is available to women just as much as men) and get down and dirty on the range, collecting eggs and tending the gardens or you can invest in a good crew to do the dirty work while you take advantage of the beautiful terrain to go mountain biking to your heart’s content. See? So far as Boulder “luxury” homes go, it’s still ride in/ride out. Just like in Mapleton.
Did I mention that this livestock makes its way into Boulder? Well, now I did. That’s right; Maytag Mountain Ranch supplies veggies, free-range chicken and grass-fed beef to the Boulder Whole Foods grocery stores.
You could go shopping with friends and literally lay claim to the beef they buy.
It’s a unique partnership to be certain. If you decide to build on the land, you’ll likely have on-property lawn service in the form of a herd of Holsteins. But the concept of parceling up ranches is becoming more and more common and ranchers try and come up with creative ways to keep their livelihood and lifestyle.
So what do ya say, pardner — ready to leave your city slicker ways behind you for a home on the range?
