For the Love of Animals: Animal Help Now’s Event this Saturday

animal help now boulder

Oh, Boulder. Longmont. Erie. Louisville and Nederland and all of the places that make up the luscious Boulder Valley — we love our animals and wildlife. And that’s why this Saturday, you might want to head on over to Animal Help Now’s event in Longmont. It’s their Expansion Celebration, and they’re looking forward to meeting you.

This Saturday, you can attend a private event in Longmont to celebrate Animal Help Now’s expansion as well as meet other Boulder Valley-ites who are as committed to animals as you are. What can you expect when you pop up to Longmont for an evening of celebration?

Well, you’ll be in for an evening of fun, food, drinks, and an enticing array of donated objects for a silent auction. There will be live music by the legendary Gypsy Swing Revue and an inspiring talk by Leslie Irvine, a noteworthy CU professor who specializes in animals in society and ethics.

The event will be held at a beautiful spacious hall constructed from salvaged barn wood in northeast Longmont. The destination is simultaneously homey and a nostalgic (sounds lovely). There are beautiful outdoor facilities for evening strolls, star gazing and a gazebo that was built just for you.

So who (and what) is Animal Help Now? Well, humans have 911 for human emergencies. Animal Help Now is the first nationwide response system for wildlife emergencies. This nonprofit provides immediate and appropriate assistance for any wildlife emergency, coast to coast. Animal Help Now’s database includes more than 3700 helpers, including wildlife rehabilitators, rescues and hotlines, as well as veterinarians who treat wildlife. Animal Help Now even offers access to businesses that humanely resolve conflicts with wildlife, such as raccoons in attics and skunks under porches. In Colorado and Texas, Animal Help Now also assists with pet emergencies, including lost and found animals, animal abuse, and 24/7 access to veterinarians.

With so much wildlife in the area, the assistance that Animal Help Now provides is critical to a state like Colorado and its wildlife-conscious residents. Here’s a bit more detail about why they are awesome.

Why Animal Help Now’s Mission is Important: In addition to the hundreds of millions of animal emergencies in the U.S. every year, not knowing where to go for help carries many costs, including:

  • Animal lives are at risk. In emergency situations, minutes can mean the difference between life and death, as can knowing whom to call.
  • Stress: Creating additional stress to a person who already is in a stressful situation. Stress is inherently undesirable, but it also can lead to poor decision making, which can endanger not only the animal, but the person, too.
  • Creating an undue burden on helpers – including rehabilitators, 911 operators, etc. – who unnecessarily spend time referring callers to appropriate helpers.
  • Making the public less likely to help animals in need.

Vets Love Animal Help Now Because They:

  • expedite the process of getting animals the help they need;
  • make it clear when veterinarians are and are not open;
  • regularly update our data;
  • help educate the public about animal emergencies;
  • decrease the amount of time veterinary clinics spend doing referrals; and
  • share the same goal – reducing suffering and saving lives!

Wildlife Rehabilitators Love Animal Help Now Because They:

  • expedite the process of getting animals the help they need;
  • respect rehabbers’ privacy by publishing only the contact information they want published;
  • make it clear when rehabbers are and are not open;
  • regularly update our data;
  • help educate the public about wildlife emergencies;
  • provide photo capability to help locate animals (think of stranded dolphins on an isolated beach outside of cell coverage) and better understand the nature of the emergency;
  • decrease the amount of time rehabbers spend doing referrals; and
  • share the same goal – reducing suffering and saving lives!
