You know Michael Pollan from The Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food. This Wednesday, May 8, he’s coming back to Boulder with his latest book, Cooked, in-hand. Presented by Boulder Book Store, the event will be a bit different than their typical in-house author events. I’m giving you the scoop.
The interest in the event was so great (not surprising, given Boulder’s predisposition for a conscious food movement) that the event has been moved from Boulder Book Store to First Congregational Church. The event will also be a mid-day event, unlike most of Boulder Book Store’s events which are typically evening events. The event begins at 12:30PM and I do recommend showing up no later than noon to ensure that you get a seat for Pollan’s talk.
Also of note, tickets to the event are $30 and include a copy of Pollan’s “Cooked” which you’ll receive at the event.
So — what can you expect to find inside Pollan’s new book?
Pollan’s decided to take on the elements — earth, fire, water, and air. They’re all transformative in how food travels to our plate and the book follows the cook’s role in bringing food to our tables. Each section of the book features Pollan’s attempt to master a single classic recipe using one of these four elements — frankly, that’s something I’m going to pay to explore. While I’m a dang decent cook, I’ve always perceived the elements as an enemy in my culinary adventures (or misadventures).
If you want to score tickets in advance of tomorrow’s event, simply call Boulder Book Store at 303-447-2074. Tickets will also be available at the door.
