Whatever the size and shape of your family, it’s possible you’ve thought about adopting a pet. But where do you go in Boulder to add that certain furry or feathered friend to your fold? I think it’s time you were introduced to the pet adoptions at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
If you’re looking to adopt a pet in Boulder, the Humane Society here has been growing families for over 100 years. The center offers pet adoptions for dogs, cats, small mammals, and birds and has two locations where you can meet your future family members:
Main Shelter
2323 55th Street, Boulder, CO 80301
Westminster Petsmart
10460 Town Center Drive, Westminster, CO 80021
You can find out more about adoption hours directly on their website.
Now, what should you expect when you’re ready to adopt a pet through the Boulder Human Society?
First, start here. That will link you to a questionnaire you’ll need to complete. You’ll also be shown three tabs so you can start browsing animals that are currently up for adoption. And don’t worry — if you see a future family friend that you fall in love with, just call the shelter and put an adoption hold on your new buddy until you can visit. It’s only $10!
Pet adoption fees at the Humane Society aren’t a profit-making venture. They go towards providing veterinary care, maintaining facilities, and paying the staff. Adoption fees range from $5 to $499. You’ll notice that high-demand animals like kittens and puppies come with a higher fee. It’s only natural, as those gotta-have fur babies will help support older animals that stay at the shelter longer while they wait for their forever home.
Your adoption fee also includes a wide variety of care for your new pet. You can view the various adoption packages here:
The Human Society is also running a “virtual baby shower” right now. As they head into puppy and kitten season, they need the community’s support more than ever. You can make a small donation here.
